Context: Founded by National Public Radio in 2007, NPR Music is a multimedia music discovery platform and brand that has launched the careers of seminal artists spanning genres and musical disciplines. The weekly All Songs Considered podcast, hosted by Robin Hilton and Bob Boilen, is the platform’s cornerstone offering, featuring artist interviews, track premieres, and critical analysis. 

In 2008, Boilen launched the Tiny Desk Concert series, a video series of stripped down live concerts filmed at Boilen‘s desk at NPR HQ in Washington, D.C. The video series and Tiny Desk legacy are North Stars of the NPR brand and consistently generate record breaking engagement with global fans and audiences. 

The Ask: The NPR Music, All Songs Considered internship is an immersive, full-time onsite professional development opportunity available to recent college graduates seeking a career in the music industry and digital media. Participants are given direct experience with audio production, editing web pages, conducting research for shows, pitching ideas, developing content for social media channels, and designing and developing embedded graphics for digital platforms. 

The Solution: Working in collaboration with the NPR Music editorial team, curate new music coverage with consistently high engagement across digital platforms and products including Web (NPR.org), Social (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter), and Audio Streaming Apps (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, NPR One). 

Perform in-depth audience research of online music communities, adapting content based on keywords, visual/aesthetic trends, and implementing global SEO strategy accordingly. 

Build lasting relationships with artists, publicists, and music industry stakeholders, ensuring content aligned with campaign goals and accurately captured artist vision, narrative, and intent. 

Develop independent and unique point of view while ensuring all content adhered to editorial standards and NPR Music brand voice. 

Live Production Assistant for the Tiny Desk concerts, managing artist handling and coordinating logistics including scheduling and contractual agreements.
